Strengthen your first line of defenceĀ by doing the following andĀ all thought Autumn's arrival makes many unpleasant chores spring to mind, like cleaning out the gutters and resealing the window panes. Remember that if you do not want the cold to get in, then you need to start on the outside by ensuring that your house is weathertight.

The space that the Summer remnants once occupied can easily be filled with Autumn items. It is time to cosy up your space by pulling out your heaters and thick feather duvets. Other small decorative touches like fluffy, thick throws and mats can also do a lot to warm up space.

  • Unplug in Bulk
    • Plug your appliances into a power strip. That way you only have to unplug one device to prevent all of your appliances from drawing a phantom charge from the power socket.
  • Dust your Lightbulbs
    • Dust on the lightbulbs in your lamps is another "phantom" electricity thief. The dustier your lightbulbs, the less light they provide, which means that you are more likely to switch on additional lights to brighten the space - especially during winter when the evenings and mornings get darker earlier.
